YouGaveMeLove is the second release from Shimizu on the Berlin label Lekker Collective. Thematically revolving around a relationship that is freshly over, where you reminisce on the loving moments you no longer get with them.

“You gave me love babe, just like you do it” is repeated throughout, like a mantra - as if to illustrate the rumination, and circulation of thoughts in the grief process. Aka Kelzz soulful voice adds to the 80’s house flavour created by the vintage synths.

The song was created in 2020 during the global pandemic, and at that moment isolation and wandering were paired with the interest for new sonic inspirations. Lofi House was one big inspiration with artists such as DJ Boring, Harrison BPD, and DJ Seinfield being played almost daily. But also the soft synths of Blood Orange and Fred again.. made the song take its shape. Originally with different vocals, and a stripped-down arrangement, the song ended up not being released and was forgotten about for almost 4 years, even though being a favorite of many collaborators and friends from Rafa. It was after meeting with Aka Kelzz and listening to their beautiful rendition of the song’s vocals, it was decided that the song was too beautiful to be forgotten. The powerful but intimate vocals from the UK singer evokes the song’s feelings of grief and conflicting love for the past, and make it complete.
